Mission of Divine Mercy

The Mission of Divine Mercy (MDM) is a Catholic religious community situated in the Texas Hill Country, between San Antonio and Austin. Established in November 2001, this community was founded upon the invitation of Monsignor O’Callaghan to a small group, soon receiving blessings from Archbishop Flores of San Antonio.

The community purchased a 128-acre tract of land in 2004, which was consecrated to the Blessed Mother on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Early constructions included St. Joseph’s Chapel for weekend Masses and the establishment of the Amici Christi, a lay branch of the community for those wishing to live the spirituality of MDM in their daily lives. Over time, the community expanded its facilities to include St. Michael’s Hall and St. Raphael’s for meetings and spiritual activities, seeking to address a demand for youth and adult spiritual development programs. This expansion facilitated the unique Encounter With Jesus retreats, although initially held off-site due to lack of accommodations at the Mission. By 2012, adjacent houses were purchased to provide immediate living quarters for the community, marking a significant step towards establishing a permanent presence at the Mission.

MDM is characterized by a commitment to spiritual growth through the Eucharistic Presence, the celebration of Mass, and a variety of spiritual retreats and programs. It is a place of peace and natural beauty, welcoming all to seek God’s presence and mercy through its sacraments, adoration, and the surrounding environment. The Mission emphasizes that it is not a substitute for a parish but a unique spiritual resource for the broader San Antonio Archdiocese and beyond. It offers visitors the opportunity to engage in prayer and reflection at its chapels and prayer stations, set amidst the tranquil backdrop of park-like areas and rugged hillsides.

The community’s growth and development over the years have been marked by significant milestones, including the dedication of the Monsignor O’Callaghan Divine Mercy Center in 2015, which bolstered the Mission’s capacity to host retreats and spiritual gatherings regularly. This center, along with other facilities like St. Joseph’s Chapel and the Most Blessed Sacrament Chapel, underscores the Mission’s dedication to providing a sacred space for those seeking closeness with God.
