Deeper Christian Life Ministry, also known as Deeper Life Bible Church, is an international Pentecostal Christian denomination founded in Nigeria. With its headquarters located in Lagos, under the leadership of Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, the church emphasizes rigorous Bible study, personal holiness, and a direct approach to Christian living and evangelism.
The ministry started from a small Bible study group led by Kumuyi, a former university lecturer, in 1973. The group initially aimed to address the spiritual needs of its members and discuss the deeper teachings of the Bible. Over time, it grew into one of the largest Christian congregations worldwide, known for its strict adherence to the teachings of the Bible and the promotion of a disciplined lifestyle among its members.
Deeper Life holds that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice, leading to a life of holiness and righteousness. Baptism by immersion, the Lord’s Supper, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance are core to its doctrinal beliefs. The church also upholds the principles of divine healing, personal evangelism, and the imminent return of Jesus Christ, emphasizing readiness for the Rapture.
Under Kumuyi’s leadership, Deeper Life has been distinguished by its structured approach to Christian discipleship, rigorous Bible study programs, and a focus on the transformative power of the Gospel. Despite its global expansion, the church maintains a uniform teaching and worship style, characterized by simplicity in worship and a focus on biblical exegesis.
The ministry has also made significant investments in social welfare and education, including the establishment of the Deeper Life High School among other educational initiatives, aimed at providing holistic Christian education that aligns with its doctrinal beliefs and moral standards.
Deeper Christian Life Ministry’s growth and impact, particularly in Africa but also globally, underscore its significant role in the Christian Pentecostal movement.
