Christbridge Academy

A Christian educational environment fostering academic excellence and personal growth, which has faced serious sexual misconduct allegations

Christbridge Academy, established in 1981, operates as a private Christian school in Azusa, California, just east of Los Angeles. The school says they are committed to providing a comprehensive educational experience from Kindergarten through 12th grade, alongside an English Learners Program, catering to a wide array of student needs and backgrounds.

The foundation of Christbridge Academy’s program is deeply rooted in Christian principles, aiming to develop a personal, spiritual, and relational structure based on the teachings and life of Jesus Christ, emphasizing not only academic excellence but also the spiritual and personal development of each student. The curriculum is designed to challenge students academically while encouraging them to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Christbridge Academy also emphasizes the importance of serving the community and developing leadership skills, preparing students not only for academic success but for meaningful contributions to society.

Christbridge Academy faced significant controversy due to the actions of John Gottuso, a Pasadena psychologist and the school’s operator. Gottuso lost his license to practice psychology after a state agency found he had sexual relations with some of his patients. Despite this, Gottuso continued to run Christbridge Academy. He was sentenced to 30 days house arrest and five years probation for demonstrating a sex act with a 15-year-old girl. This case highlighted a legal loophole that allowed Gottuso to continue his educational activities, raising serious concerns about oversight and regulation. Students have also accused Daniel Simonson of similar conduct.
